AHS has received a Preliminary Permit from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, under the name of its
subsidiary company, Metro Hydroelectric Company LLC for this project which is situated in the Gorge Metropark
between the City of Akron and the City of Cuyahoga Falls in Summit County. The project  purpose is to redevelop
and reestablish what had been a productive generating facility attached to the Ohio Edison dam. The benefits to
our community include:

  • Our community will benefit from a reliable, nonpolluting energy source
  • Green energy does not pollute the environment with CO2 emissions the way coal, oil and gas does
  • Hydro power is clean renewable energy. Unlike coal, oil and gas which are disposed of each time   we
consume it, the river’s energy will be used repeatedly.
  • This hydro project is environmentally aesthetically and socially responsible
  • We have offered to remove the abandoned hydro demonstration plant by the dam which will
considerable enhance the view from the park platform
  • The project will provide learning opportunities for park visitors
  • We anticipate installing certain recreation facilities enhancing the park experience
  • The project will pay taxes
  • And yes, we directly help to reduce our dependence on foreign oil

The dam was constructed in 1912 for the purpose of hydroelectric generation and the original power house was
about a half mile downstream. A considerable portion of the civil works still exists and needs only refurbishment
and revitalization. This includes the headgate and penstock saddles. We plan to erect a new power house about
700 feet downstream. Our philosophy is one of generating renewable energy in a socially responsible and
environmentally neutral way. Thus we plan to erect a power house that will blend suitably with the park
environment.

                      Legal Action

On Monday July 24th, 2006 Metro Hydroelectric filed suit in
Federal District court against the Metro Parks, Serving
Summit County. The Metro Park has taken action to block
us from undertaking the very environmental and other
studies that will allow the community and project
stakeholders to understand what impacts, if any, this
project will have on the river and the park. Hence, with
regret, we have taken this action to ask the court to
restrain the Metro Park from blocking the studies.

the Metro Park to allow the non-invasive studies to
